Suzanne Hughes
Born in the South West of England and now residing in Florida, Suzanne Hughes is an abstract artist whose atmospheric works explore themes of solitude and space. After relocating to the U.S. in the late 1990s, Suzanne followed a creative path that led her through a career in home renovation, staging, and interior decorating before fully immersing herself in painting in March 2020. What began as a personal exploration during the COVID-19 lockdown—armed with newly purchased art supplies and a passion for experimentation—quickly evolved into a dedicated artistic practice. She also completed several online courses to deepen her knowledge of form, color, and composition.
Suzanne draws much of her inspiration from memory and place—rugged coastlines, quiet beaches, crashing waves, and misty sunrises. These elements, along with the contrast between nature’s stillness and the noise of urban life, deeply inform her intuitive process. Each piece emerges organically, with layers of paint, pigment, and pastel building emotional depth and visual texture.
Working in series, Suzanne often creates multiple pieces that can be displayed together as triptychs or appreciated individually. Her work invites contemplation and calm, offering viewers a visual pause from the everyday and a gentle space for reflection and daydreaming
Suzanne is currently painting and exhibiting at Wilton Art Works, a vibrant and supportive artistic community that she is thrilled to be a part of. This opportunity has been a meaningful and energizing chapter in her creative journey—one that she’s incredibly happy and grateful for.
